The Hawk Foundations Executive Director, Javoen Byrd, will be facilitating weekly drum circles at Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute. We will be using an evidence based protocol from Remo Drums and also teaching the community about the history of various drum and African cultures. Hosted by Seattle’s own Grammy Award-winning trumpet player, Owuor Arunga, these sessions provide young musicians, singers, and poets with the opportunity to collaborate with some of Seattle’s finest working jazz artists. Each week, participants will develop their skills through live improvisation and real-time performance experience.
